(Audubon) The Audubon City Council is exploring an avenue to boost housing options.
The council discussed Iowa Prison Industries Homes at a work session earlier this week. City Clerk Joe Foran admits, “Iowa Prison Industries has built about 18 spec homes for about $75,000 each. They are available for different communities to put in and improve the housing situation. The city is going to apply for one to be placed here.”
Foran admits the council has identified a potential location and is working out the details. “There’s a property that we are working on the city obtaining ownership of. We hope to put one in there so people can see what it is like and stir up some interest in those types of homes.”
Foran says Iowa Prison Industries sells the homes for $75,000 and the city is responsible for putting the foundation in. People making $69,000 or less can qualify to purchase one of these homes.
