(Villisca) A fire in rural Villisca leveled a barn and killed some livestock inside the structure.
According to the press release, the Villisca Fire Department responded to the large barn fire at 6:32 a.m. at the Gale Fisher farm at 2778 265th Street. When firefighters arrived, flames had fully engulfed the barn. The Villisca Fire Department called in the Stanton and Grant Fire Departments for mutual aid for tanker support. The owners were unable to retrieve the small number of livestock from the burning structure. The livestock perished in the fire. There were no injuries to the property owners or firefighters.
Fire crews contained the fire to the barn and salvaged another barn and home located close by. Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately three-hours and 21-minutes.
It appears an alternative heat source for the livestock may have ignited the blaze. The known value of the property and the livestock is unknown at this time.
The following agencies assisted at the scene; Villisca Fire and Rescue, Grant Fire and Rescue, Stanton Fire and Rescue, the Red Oak Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, and Montgomery County Emergency Management.
John Bruce, of the Villisca Fire and Rescue, issued a special thanks to the Fisher Family for their assistance at the scene.
