(Elk Horn) A new Superintendent sharing agreement between Exira-EHK and IKM-Manning has been approved by the Exira-EHK school board.
Under the sharing agreement, Superintendent Trevor Miller will be spending four days per week at IKM-Manning and one day per week at Exira-EHK. The Exira-EHK board has approved things on their end. IKM-Manning acts on the measure on Thursday. “Everything will get done, I’ll just be less visible in the district. It’ll be about 1.5 days less than I’m currently in. It’s a one year deal to see how it goes for both districts and also myself. We’ll decide around Christmas if they want to continue or if someone wants to go with different options.”
The 2020-21 school calendar was approved by the board on Monday with a first day of school scheduled for Monday, August 24th. For Winter Break, students will be done on December 22nd and return on January 5th. The calendar includes three days off for Thanksgiving, a couple of days for spring break, and a couple around Easter. The final day of school is penciled in for Friday, May 21st.
The board recognized and heard a presentation from the Lego League team that made it to state. The group discussed their project of working on a handicap accessible swing in the park among other things. “It was amazing what they did and for their first year Ms. Dreyer and Ms. Jessen did a great job working with the kids.”
In personnel matters, the board approved a transfer for Brittney Williams from 1st-3rd grade, Bev Ohlinger is retiring from special education, and Kathy Blazek has been hired as a long term half time sub in the elementary for the rest of the school year. The following coaching contracts were approved: Tom Petersen-high school girls golf, Tony Petersen-high school boys golf, Payton Wilkenfeld-high school girls track, Ross Blake-junior high track assistant.
