(Audubon) The City of Audubon’s tax levy rate is on the decline.
The City Council held a work session on Monday night to discuss the FY21 Budget. City Clerk Joe Foran shares the details. “It looks like budget wise our tax levy will be going down about $1.48. So that’s good news for the community.”
Multiple elements have factored into the significant change such as increased valuation. “Some of the other expenses were able to be mitigated. We had a big jump in valuation from fiscal 20 to fiscal 21 so that helped out a lot to keep the levy down. It’s always nice to be able to get the same, if not more money for less of a percentage.”
Also on Monday the council further discussed the request to change an ordinance that currently bans ATV’s within city limits. Foran says individuals would like to be able to clear snow in town, but that is not allowed. Police Chief Matt Starmer has expressed concerns about accidents given the limited visibility of ATV’s on the roadways compared to cars.
The Council had a discussion with a representative from the Iowa DNR about the Landus Building which is now owned by the Fire Association and will be the site of Audubon’s new fire station. They discussed different funding options to offset the cost of demolition and asbestos removal.
