(Atlantic) Five cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the U.S. The outbreak of the novel coronavirus was initially identified in China, and since then imported cases have been reported in Thailand, Japan, and the Republic of Korea.
Lindy Nelson, infection Prevention Nurse at Cass County Health System says the primary source of the infection is still under investigation. Nelson says it was originally thought the infection was coming from seafood or animal markets.
Nelson says most of the time its’ spread by coughing, sneezing and inadequate hand-washing.
Nelson says the symptoms are fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. Nelson says the deaths are the result of not knowing what it is, what is causing it and there’s no known cure at the present time.
The Center for Disease Control is conducting screening and education to travelers returning from Wuhan, China at five airports. Those include; JFK, Los Angeles International, Atlanta International, and Chicago O’Hare.
Nelson says the risk to the general public remains low at the present time.
