(Harlan) Glenwood trailed for 90% of the game, but walked out of Harlan with a 74-67 win over the 9th ranked Cyclones on Tuesday night. The Rams erased a 7-point deficit with 3:30 to play to improve to 8-3 on the season.
Ryan Blum and Zach Carr each scored 20 points for the victors who hit 11 3-pointers including five from Ben Hughes off the bench. In the final stretch Blum stole a long Harlan inbounds pass and drained a pull up three, Harlan missed a quick shot, and Ben Hughes drilled a three from the left corner with 2:15 to play. Once Glenwood secured the lead they weren’t about to give it back. Blum went 5/7 from the line in the 2nd half and John Palmer made 5 big free-throws as well.
Glenwood threatened to take the lead on multiple prior occasions, but Harlan’s seniors came up with big responses throughout the night. The Rams tied it at 37 with 7:06 to go in the third quarter, only to see Harlan follow with back-to-back baskets from Connor Bruck and Johnathan Monson to temporarily regain control. Glenwood knotted things again with 1:33 left in the 3rd quarter, but Bruck delivered an and-one and Harlan clung to a 46-45 lead going into the 4th.
In addition to 20 each from Carr and Blum, Ben Hughes and John Palmer each scored 15. After giving up 23 points in the first quarter, Glenwood’s defense limited Harlan to 23 points in the next two quarters combined. The Cyclones pushed the lead to double figures three times in the game, but couldn’t put the Rams away. Bruck and Michael Heithoff each had 18 points for Harlan. Michael Erlmeier scored 11 while Connor Frame and Johnathan Monson had 10 each.
The Cyclones went just 5/11 from the line in the 2nd half after a 10/13 showing in the first half. They fall to 7-2 on the year. It’s their first loss against a Class 3A opponent this year.
