(Atlantic) Atlantic Firefighters responded to a house fire at 304 West Third Street in Atlantic at around 5:04 p.m. on Saturday.
Atlantic Fire Chief Mark McNees tells KSOM/KS95 News they arrived to smoke and flames billowing from the bedroom area at the rear of the home. He says a trailer parked between the residence and a neighboring garage had to be moved away from the blaze.
Chief McNees says witnesses stated someone had been seen in and out of the vacant house during the afternoon about an hour and a half before the fire started. “We got a quick knockdown and conducted a search and rescue and fortunately didn’t find anyone inside,” said McNees.
McNees says at this time it’s hard to tell what may have started the fire. “We found a couple of things, but it doesn’t look suspicious at the moment, it may be accidental,” said McNees. “We’re still investigating.
The Atlantic Fire Department was assisted by the Atlantic Police Department, Medivac ambulance, and Cass County Emergency Management Director Mike Kennon.
