(Avoca) Officials with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office have released more details on the pursuit and eventual arrest of 29-year-old Andrew Nielsen, of Council Bluffs.
Shelby County Deputy Donovan Dontje says, “A Shelby County Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Highway 59 just south of Corley. The suspect vehicle took off and it initiated a pursuit. The vehicle went towards Avoca and stopped abruptly in an attempt to elude the deputy or get onto the interstate. The Shelby County Deputy then hit the back end of the suspect vehicle, disabling the Shelby County Deputy’s vehicle.”
The suspect then continued into Avoca where his white 1999 Dodge Ram eventually went out of control into a ditch. Nielsen was taken into custody. He’s charged with drug possession, ongoing criminal conduct, drug stamp penalties, felony eluding, possession of drug paraphernalia, and OWI 1st offense.
The incident began just prior to 2:00 a.m. Friday. The Iowa State Patrol, Cass County Sheriff’s Office, and Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office were also involved in the pursuit.
