(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council has approved a three-year extension for Vision Atlantic to complete its proposed daycare project.
Resolution #59-26 extends the project completion deadline from December 31, 2026, to December 31, 2029. Vision Atlantic requested the extension because construction has not yet started, making completion by the original deadline no longer feasible.
The project is part of a development agreement between the City of Atlantic and Vision Atlantic, Inc., involving projects within the Southeast Urban Renewal Area.
The City Council’s Personnel and Finance Committee reviewed the request on October 23 and unanimously recommended approval of the extension.
The City Council approved the change, stating its continued commitment to supporting the successful completion of the daycare project.
All other terms and conditions of the original development agreement remain unchanged.
In other business, the Atlantic City Council has approved setting a public hearing on the proposed sale of an empty city-owned lot at 7 West 11th Street.
The city received a $5,000 bid from Clark Knop to purchase the property. No other bids were received.
The Personnel and Finance Committee reviewed the proposed sale during its October 14, 2026, meeting and unanimously recommended moving forward with the sale to Knop for $5,000.
The City Council presented the bid and committee recommendation and accepted them at its October 21 meeting.
All necessary paperwork has since been completed and forwarded to the City Council. Resolution #61-26 initiates the process for a public hearing on the proposed sale, as required under Iowa Code Section 364.7(3).
The public hearing will provide the next step toward completing the sale of the property.
Additionally, the Atlantic City Council approved a second pay application to McCarthy Trenching, LLC, for work on the West 15th Street Extension Project.
Pay Application #2 totals $55,334.86.
The City Council awarded the project to McCarthy Trenching on August 19, 2026, through Resolution #45-26, for a total contract amount of $217,919.25.
The council previously approved the first payment of $139,587 during its October 7 meeting.
Following approval of the second payment, $22,997.51 will remain to be paid to McCarthy Trenching to complete the contract.
The payments are based on monthly estimates of labor and materials, as required under Iowa Code Section 384.57. Approval as a separate, recorded action is considered best practice for public improvement projects.
