(Audubon) The Audubon Wheelers roll into the second round of the 8-player post-season with a 9-0 record. The Wheelers enter the contest averaging 66 points per game while allowing a stingy nine points per contest. Clarksville is 7-2, averaging 49 points per game while giving up 27.
Audubon Head Coach Sean Birks says his team got a wake-up call last week, despite defeating East Union 54-12 in round one.
Birks says they have to be ready from the get-go against a physical Clarksville team. The Indians are a run-dominant squad, with 3,446 rushing yards compared to just 272 passing yards. Senior Nathan Moon leads the offense with 1,794 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns, averaging 8.0 yards per carry. Boden Miller is another threat, with 1,197 rushing yards and 12.7 yards per carry.
Audubon’s depth bodes well for preparation for Clarksville’s multiple formations.
Like most games the team that wins the battle of front, will have the edge in this game. Coach Birks says they have a large front line, much like Audubon. He says 6’6 320-pound center Jason Reints jumps off the chart at you, and all-state quarterback Nathan Moon at 5’9 220 pound has a punishing style of running the football.
The Wheelers offensive attack is equally impressive with 2,746 rushing yards. Aiden Kjergaard leads the team with 1,428 yards, 29 touchdowns, and averages 14 yards per carry. Mason Kasperbauer has 43 carries for 595 yards, 10 touchdowns, and averages 13.8 yards per carry. Kjergaard has also thrown for 665 yards, 11 touchdowns to just two interceptions.
We will have the broadcast on KS95.7 F.M., and audio streamed on westerniowatoday.com (KS95). The pre-game show starts at 6:30. kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
