(Glenwood, IA) — For the third time this season, Riverside and Red Oak’s volleyball teams will play — this time a berth in the Class 2A state tournament is on the line; coverage on KSOM.
The Bulldogs beat West Central Valley and Logan Magnolia in the first two rounds, dropping one set to the Panthers. It was only the third set lost all season by Riverside (the other two were in two matches against Tri Center). The Bulldogs are known for their balanced offense but they have a lot of girls who can block as well — Junior Vivian Gross leads with 62, Sophomore Dakota Somers has 36, Junior Arabella Singleton 29, Seniors Lilli Reed and Sydney Somers 27 and 22. Head Coach Brooke Flathers says their experience showed itself on Monday
Red Oak has not lost a set in two straight matches against Panorama and St. Albert — the Tigers are led by Senior Keely Jones with 496 kills; Sophomore Ellie O’Neal has 228 kills. Riverside has outblocked Red Oak 225-145. Flathers says they are not necessarily strong in one area
Riverside beat them in mid September 21, 18 and 11 and then in the conference tournament 14, 22, and 21. How difficult will it be for the Bulldogs to beat the same team three times in a season? Flathers says all that matters is the present
#4 Riverside is 38-0, #11 Red Oak is 26-10; first serve tonight is at 7:00 from Glenwood — coverage on 96.5 FM KSOM.
