State Audit: Dept of Public Safety Employees Approved Their Own Time Off Requests
(Des Moines, IA) — Some employees at the Iowa Department of Public Safety had no problems getting time off last year. A state audit shows that public safety workers approved their own timesheets and absence requests multiple times. They also approved timesheets and requested time off for others. The Department says it’s ensuring that an independent reviewer will approve the time going forward and that it won’t delegate the duty to subordinates.
Governor Reynolds Issues Disaster Proclamation for Washington County
(Des Moines, IA) — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issues a disaster proclamation for Washington County. The proclamation is in response to severe storms starting on September 19th and continuing afterward. It allows state resources to be used in response and recovery efforts and activates the Individual Assistance Grant Program and the Disaster Case Advocacy Program. The proclamation takes effect immediately and will last for 30 days unless terminated early or extended.
Arraignment Scheduled For Perry Woman Accused Of Killing Her Infant
(Adel, IA) — An arraignment has been scheduled for a Perry woman accused of killing her newborn infant earlier this month. Twenty-year-old Stephanie Ubaldo [[ oo-BALL-doh ]] faces a charge of first-degree murder. Ubaldo was taken to the hospital on September 15th from a Perry child care center, and investigators found her deceased infant in a trash can at the facility later that day. She waived her right to a preliminary hearing, and her arraignment is scheduled for October 28th. Ubaldo is being held at the Dallas County Jail without bond.
