(Des Moines, IA) — Harvest season is underway in Iowa, but recent rain has made for a slow start in some areas. Guang Tian an assistant professor of agricultural economics at Iowa State University, says the wet weather has delayed harvest progress, but he’s not concerned about crop yields just yet.
Tian says if fields dry out soon, farmers shouldn’t be too concerned. But if wet conditions persist, they could begin to take a toll on corn and soybean yields. The latest USDA crop report shows that just 4% of Iowa’s corn and soybean crops have been harvested so far.
