Police Outline Next Steps After Deceased Infant Found At Central Iowa Daycare
(Perry, IA) — Police are outlining the next steps in their investigation after a deceased infant was found at a central Iowa daycare Tuesday. Officers were called to the Acorns and Oaks Child Care Facility in Perry to reports of a bleeding woman at about 5:30 p.m. The woman was taken to the hospital for treatment, and investigators returned to the daycare about an hour later after learning the woman had given birth. The infant’s body was found inside a trash can near the child care facility. Police say the baby was not in the care of Acorns and Oaks. Investigators are now waiting for autopsy results from the medical examiner to see if the death will lead to criminal charges.
Epstein Files Are Coming To Iowa
(Des Moines, IA) — The Epstein Files are coming to Iowa. Des Moines-based t-shirt company Raygun is sponsoring the Trump-Epstein Reading Room and Bookmobile, a traveling exhibit carrying millions of pages from the Jeffrey Epstein files. The bookmobile will be outside the Raygun store in Des Moines Friday, Iowa City Sunday, and Cedar Rapids on Monday. The Reading Room will be set up in Des Moines again Monday through Thursday of next week. The exhibit is the creation of the Institute for Primary Facts in partnership with Defiance, a nonprofit group formed to combat government corruption.
Central Iowa Hospital Celebrates 125th Anniversary
(Des Moines, IA) — A Central Iowa hospital is celebrating its 125th anniversary. Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines started out with 30 beds in 1901. It bought its first ambulance in 1916, replacing its horse-drawn medical transport. Methodist played a key role treating the polio epidemic in the 1940’s and 50’s. The first open-heart procedure was performed at the hospital after the Mayo Clinic in 1956, and doctors at Methodist delivered the first surviving septuplets in 1997. Iowa Methodist is on track to deliver the most babies this year than any other hospital in the state.
DMPD: Suspect Arrested In Hit-and-Run Death Of Pedestrian
(Des Moines, IA) — A suspect is in custody after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run Wednesday morning. The Des Moines Police Department says officers responded to reports of a person down near Martin Luther King, Jr. Parkway and Washington Avenue. First responders found a 57 year-old victim at the scene and began life-saving measures. The victim was taken to an area hospital but later died. Police say they used a nearby license plate reader camera to identify the vehicle involved and later located its owner, 57-year-old Michelle Williams. She was taken into custody and faces multiple charges. This is the city’s 14th traffic-related death this year.
Quad Cities River Bandits Capture Midwest League Championship
(Davenport, IA) — Members of an Iowa minor league team are 2026 Midwest League Champions. The Quad Cities River Bandits secured their win on Tuesday. Blake Mitchell hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to lead the bandits to a 2-1 victory over the Dayton Dragons to sweep the championship series two-games-to-none in Ohio. It’s the Bandits fifth Midwest League title since 2011.
