(Atlantic) Atlantic junior Lily Willrich delivered a strong performance on the tennis court this past week, earning two singles victories and two doubles wins in recent competitions against Winterset and Carroll. Her performances helped lead the team to a 9-0 sweep over Winterset and a 7-2 win over Carroll, and earned her this week’s KS95.7 Armor Insurance Trojan Athlete of the Week.
Willrich opened singles play with an 8-0 victory over Zoe Broekemeier of Winterset, and teamed up with Taryn O’Brien in doubles, posting an 8-1 victory. She followed that performance with another dominant singles win against Carroll, defeating Mirabel Abraham 8-1.
Willrich has worked hard on her serve.
The Trojans wrap up the regular season this week with a match with St. Albert on Monday, and the Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament on Tuesday.
Willrich says the highlight of the season has been being part of the team, and playing tennis will rank among the most memorable activities of her high school career.
Atlantic enters its final regular-season match with an 8-1 record. The Trojans opened the season with an 8-1 victory over Kuemper. Their only loss came on August 10, when Atlantic fell to Clarinda, 7-2. Since then, the Trojans have won seven consecutive matches.
