(Guthrie Center, IA) — Stella Largent proved she is one of the best hitters in the state to lead AC/GC over Panorama 3 sets to 1.
Largent had 30 kills in the match and the Chargers overcame losing the first set and only the team’s second set of the season. They won 23-25, 25-13, 25-16, 25-23.
Panorama got 6 aces in the first set including 3 in a row from Ashley Crees to win 25-23. The Chargers trailed 19-24 but got a sideout and almost came all the way back — a Tessa Slaybaugh ace made it 23-24 but she served the next one in the net to give the Panthers the win.
AC/GC used that momentum to carry over into the 2nd set — trailing 6-4, the Chargers got the serve and Meranda Gruber won 4 points on her serve including a couple of big blocks from Nora Langgaard to lead 9-6. Kailee Kautzky later got a couple of aces and Gruber added two aces toward the end to win 25-13.
In set three with the score tied 10-10, the Chargers scored six straight points to take control. Largent got two aces and four points off her serve as AC/GC won 25-16.
The Chargers built a 15-6 lead in set four but Panorama hung in there. Trailing 17-23, the Panthers got a sideout and Lexi Galvan won four straight points to cut the lead to 22-23. However, the set and match appropriately ended on a Largent kill to give AC/GC the win 25-23.
