(Clarinda) One of the premier games in southwest Iowa tonight is Clarinda at Underwood. Both teams are ranked in their respective classes. The Cardinals are ranked #3 in 2A, and Underwood is rated #5 in Class 1A.
The 2-0 Cardinals defeated Creston 59-45 in week one, and topped Shenandoah last week, 65-30. Clarinda Head Coach Conner Hanafan is impressed with his players’ resiliency through the first two games.
The Cardinals have a balanced attack, with 457 yards passing and 457 yards rushing. Baylor Hash leads the rushing attack with 55 carries for 384 yards and five touchdowns. Cooper Baumgart has thrown for all 589 yards while completing 65.9 percent of his passes. Next up is Underwood. The Eagles have wins over Harlan and I35.
The game features two quarterbacks who have been successful early in the season. Underwood sophomore Nash Mitchell, 28/48, threw for 430 yards.
Baumgart follows a string of outstanding quarterbacks at Clarinda.
The kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. at Underwood.
