(Oakland, IA) — Riverside volleyball is off to a strong start this year — winning the AHSTW tournament at the end of August with five straight wins. The Bulldogs have a ton of weapons but Senior Sophia Fenner seems to be the glue holding things together. As the team’s starting Libero the last three years and seeing significant time as a freshman as well, Fenner has a career 652 digs and only needs three more aces to get 100 for her career.
Fenner is strong in other sports as well — a state medalist in the shot put, a starter in basketball, the starting catcher in softball. She is a leader at Riverside and she accepts it
Riverside lost in the regional finals last year to Aplington Parkersburg and missed out on a chance to go to state for back to back years. Fenner says that is driving her and her teammates this year
Fenner has a twin brother Owen who is successful in sports as well — Owen has been successful in cross country and track and Sophia says they can kind of feed off each other’s success
The Bulldogs went 38-0 last season before their loss. Fenner hopes there are lessons learned for this year’s team
