(Oakland, IA) — Riverside used a strong game from Peyton Amdor on Friday night to win their district opener against Mount Ayr 22-16 and for that he is the GG Harris Farm Bureau KSOM Athlete of the Week.
At the start of fall practice, Amdor was one of four players battling for the starting QB spot for the Bulldogs but he won the job and on Friday night was 16 of 28 passing for 331 yards, 3 TD and no interceptions. Plus on defense, he had 4.5 tackles including a QB sack and a fumble recovery. It was one of 6 turnovers that Riverside collected against the Raiders. In addition, Amdor was 2-2 on extra points, got a two point conversion and had two touchbacks on his four kickoffs.
Amdor says he was not sure he was going to be the starter at QB
Amdor connected with fellow Senior Cole Jeppesen 5 times for 187 yards and all three scores — Peyton says it helps to play QB when you got a playmaker like Cole
Amdor admittedly loves basketball first but he embraces the challenge as well on the football field but there are some negatives
Riverside had a first round exit last year in the playoffs and lost a lot to graduation so Amdor says this team has something to prove
