(Guthrie Co.) A plane made an emergency landing Wednesday afternoon in Guthrie County after experiencing a mechanical issue, with the lone occupant escaping injury.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says at approximately 3:46 PM Wednesday, Guthrie County Dispatch received reports of a plane flying towards Guthrie County Regional Airport with what was believed to be engine issues.
The plane made an emergency landing on the roadway near Redwood Avenue and 215th Street after a mechanical issue occurred, inadvertently damaging the underside and landing gear and causing the plane to end up in the ditch.
The only occupant was uninjured.
Highway 44 was closed at 7:03 PM to allow for the plane to be moved and was reopened and cleared at 7:38 PM.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Guthrie County Emergency Management, Panora Police Department, and Lake Panorama Security responded, assisted the occupant, and helped with traffic control.
The emergency landing now being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration.
