(Glenwood) The Glenwood football team will look to build on last season’s Class 4A playoff appearance. The Rams finished the season with a 7-3 record. Glenwood enters this season ranked No. 10 in the Class 4A Radio Iowa preseason poll.
Head coach Cory Faust welcomed 95 players to preseason and returned the entire offensive line. The returnees are all seniors, including Jordan and Josh Taylor, Todd Schmitt, Nile Lundvall, and Evan Kinney, and are anchored by 6.5 270-pound University of Minnesota recruit Drake Buthe.
The Rams also return starting quarterback Ben Carlo, who threw for 1,758 yards, 13 touchdowns, and just three interceptions. Coach Faust will need to find a new running back to replace Scott Reed, who rushed for 1,533 yards last season. He says Haze Stephens will take some snaps at the running back position along with Dylan Powles, and Joe Leick will also carry the ball.
The Rams have experience at the receiver position with Ethan Eiseman and Myles Longmeyer, who combined for 40 catches and 532 yards. Those two seniors will have to carry the load in the absence of Jack Johnson, who caught 33 passes for 405 yards, and Kaden Crouch, who caught 43 passes for 655 yards.
Defensive back Chase Razor will also play some wide receiver, and Treg Arnold will also see some playing time. When facing Atlantic, Coach Faust says the Trojans are always going to play hard and physical football.
