(Tabor) Fremont-Mills hosts CAM in a non-district Week One football game this Friday night. The Knights are coming off a deep run in the playoffs one year ago before falling short to Woodbine in the quarterfinals.
Like CAM, Fremont-Mills has a history of successful football teams. Over the past 20 seasons, the Knights are 155-52. Head Coach Greg Ernster says it all comes down to the players.
Fremont-Mills return four of the eight starters from one year ago, and about the same on offense. He says a lot of the new faces are seniors who have just been waiting for their turn.
Coach Ernster says CAM’s defense forces teams to do things the opposition dislikes because of how they line up.
Coach Ernster is excited to get Rhett Lamonds back following an injury during the baseball season. Lamonds had 33.5 tackles one year ago. Senior defensive back and wide receiver Landon Morse is another player who has been waiting his time and is working his way into a starting role on both sides of the ball, along with a couple of transfer student-athletes, Bently Grasso and Evan Laumann, who are earning their way onto the field. Fremont-Mills needs to replace quarterback Sawyer Forney, who threw for 1,245 yards and 21 touchdowns last season. However, Coach Ernster is keeping the name of his starting quarterback close to his chest before game time.
The kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. On Friday night at Tabor.
