(Des Moines, IA) — Another soggy start to the Iowa State Fair, which opens its ten-day run today. State Fair officials are asking fairgoers to hold off before heading out to the fairgrounds because of the heavy rains and storms moving through Central Iowa. They will be posting updates on the state fair website and their social media pages for future alerts. The storms knocked out power to thousands of customers in the Des Moines metro. Last year, outdoor activities were suspended on the first day of the state fair because of strong storms.
