(Des Moines) The National Weather Service says thunderstorms are possible in western Iowa this afternoon. It says a few storms may be strong to severe, with damaging winds the primary threat. The storms will also pose a heavy rainfall and flash flooding threat as storms progress east tonight and tomorrow.
Storms will spread from west to east over Iowa tonight, producing 1” to 3” rain swaths by midday Friday. Higher amounts are possible.
The Weather Service is forecasting additional storms on Friday afternoon in southern Iowa. A few storms may be strong to severe with gusty winds and a brief tornado.
Dry weather is forecast over the weekend.
