(Atlantic) Lila Wiederstein is one of 39 elite senior softball players selected to compete in today’s 2026 Iowa Girls Coaches Association All-Star Softball Games.
Wiederstein will suit up for the Blue Team, which features players from every region of the state. The all-star selection is the latest in a long list of postseason honors for the Atlantic senior catcher, who is expected to see time behind the plate and in the outfield.
In addition to the three all-star games, players will also compete in the Home Run Derby.
Wiederstein heads into the event after an outstanding senior season. She hit eight home runs, five triples, eight doubles, and 40 singles while driving in 49 runs. The five-year starter finished with a .488 batting average and helped lead Atlantic to a 33-win season, including a perfect 20-0 record in the Hawkeye Ten Conference.
This year’s success came after a long road back from injury. Wiederstein missed most of the 2025 softball season and the entire volleyball and basketball seasons before returning to competition in track this spring, where she posted personal-best times in the sprints. She says the experience taught her valuable lessons about handling adversity and gave her a new perspective.
The all-star games will be played at Southeast Polk Middle School. The Red Team faces the White Team at 2:00 p.m., the White Team takes on the Blue Team at 4:00 p.m., and the Blue Team closes the day against the Red Team at 6:00 p.m.
The event also includes the presentation of District Coach of the Year Awards, Milestone Awards, Hall of Fame inductions, and other special honors.
