Daisy Plant Being Built In Boone Brings Jobs, Economic Development
(Boone, IA) — A new dairy plant being constructed in Boone is expected to employ at least 255 people. Boone Alderman Terry Moorman says Daisy is spending one-point-three-billion dollars to construct the plant, which has led to new housing developments in the area and the need for more dairy production. Daisy broke ground on the new plant last year and it’s expected to open in 2028.
Governor Reynolds Appoints Iowa Lottery Administrator
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Lottery has new leadership. Governor Kim Reynolds is appointing Stephen Waymire as Administrator of the Iowa Lottery. Waymire has served as the Iowa Lottery’s Investigations Bureau Chief and as a member of its executive management team since 2022. He’s also a 30-plus-year veteran of the Des Moines Police Department. The Iowa Lottery is a division of the Iowa Department of Revenue.
5 Iowa Breweries Win Gold Medals At 2026 U.S. Open Beer Championships
(Undated) — Five Iowa breweries won gold at the 2026 U.S. Open Beer Championships. The Iowa Brewers Guild says Flix Brewhouse and Confluence breweries in Des Moines, Full Fledged Brewing Co. in Council Bluffs and Marto Brewing Company in Sioux City brought home gold medals, along with silver and bronze. Toppling Goliath in Decorah earned three gold medals and ranked seventh on the Open’s list of the top breweries in 2026. Big Grove Brewery in Cedar Rapids and Exile Brewing Company in Des Moines also brought home one bronze medal each, making the total number of medals earned by Iowa breweries 18.
Study: Des Moines Most Dangerous City in Iowa for Vehicle Theft
(Undated) — A new study ranks Des Moines as the most dangerous city in Iowa for vehicle thefts. AmericanTrucks-dot-com analyzed FBI data to compare 281 U.S. cities based on the number of vehicle thefts in 2025. Des Moines ranked 61st overall, the highest among Iowa’s major cities, with an average of 438 vehicle thefts per 100-thousand residents last year. Davenport ranked 141st and Cedar Rapids came in at number 205.
Iowa State Fair Releases List Of New Drinks For 2026
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa State Fair has released a list of more than 40 new drinks for 2026. The list includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic options, including Cotton Candy Beer, an Apple Cider Float, Banana Cream Latte, Jalapeno Lemonade and a PB and J Beer. Fairgoers can vote for the favorite on the state fair app when the fair begins August 13th.
RAGBRAI 53 Day 3 Takes Riders From Boone To Marshalltown
(Boone, IA) — RAGBRAI 53 riders are at the halfway point. After spending the night in Boone, the route takes cyclists nearly 68 miles Wednesday to Marshalltown. This is the fifth time Marshalltown has hosted overnight. Riders will need a good night’s rest — Thursday’s ride to Independence is the longest day of RAGBRAI 53 at just over 80 miles. It’s also one of the hilliest. RAGBRAI ends Saturday in Dubuque.
