(Atlantic) The Atlantic softball team finished with a record of 33-7 this past season, falling short to Van Meter in the Regional Finals on Tuesday. Despite the loss, the team accomplished a lot this season, winning the Hawkeye Ten Conference title with a perfect 20-0 record.
Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann reflects on the season.
Hinzmann noted that the seniors on the team have reached the Regional Finals three times in their careers.
Coach Hinzmann complimented the team on their hard work and understanding of the game.
The Trojans batted .361 as a team, with two quality pitchers in Peyton McLaren and Brynn Lamp. McLaren finished the season with a 15-1 record, coupled with an ERA of 1.79. Lamp went 17-5 with an ERA of 2.70.
The Trojans also placed the most players on the Hawkeye Ten All-Conference teams, including unanimous selection Lila Wiederstein, Peyton McLaren, and sisters Zoey and London Kirchhoff, named to the first team. Jillian Saathoff, Brynn Lamp, and Makenna Schroeder were named to the second team. Claire Schroder was Honorable Mention.
The Trojans graduate five seniors: Lila Wiederstein, Zoey Kirchhoff, Makenna Schroeder, Claire Schroder, and Aunika Darrow.
