(Avoca) The 130th Annual Pottawattamie County Fair starts on Wednesday in Avoca. The day kicks off at 8:00 a.m. with the 4H Static project evaluation. The 4H and FFA Food Stand opens at 8:00 a.m., and the 4-H working exhibits open at 2:30 p.m.
Adam Stamp, Fair Board President, says 4-H and FFA offer young people a tremendous number of hands-on opportunities.
Stamp says Wednesday is the official first day; however, Thursday is the first big day of the Fair. The Queen’s coronation highlights the events on Thursday evening, starting at 6:00 p.m. Cole Rath will have a concert starting at 7:30 p.m., and the barbecue contest is at 9:00 p.m. Also new this year is a hot air balloon ride.
The goat, sheep, rabbit, small-pet, and dog shows are on Friday. The beef show is on Saturday, with evening activities including figure-8 races and a teen dance. The swine show is on Sunday, and the Redneck Rally race caps off the events on Sunday evening.
The Pottawattamie County wraps up on Monday, July 20, with the Livestock Premium Auction at 9:00 a.m.
