(Guthrie Center, IA) — The ACGC Chargers got the offensive momentum going early and kept Treynor to just two runs through four innings of play, advancing to the next round with a 12-2 victory.
The game started slow with both defenses allowing just two hits through the first two complete innings. Treynor was the first to attack in the top of the third, where Addyson Magill crossed the plate on a sac bunt from Joslyn Chambers. ACGC responded quickly with four runs in the bottom of the third. Kiera Boals started off the inning with a single to right field, eventually scoring on an RBI double from leadoff hitter Jerzee Huss. Kailee Kautzky brought Megan Underwood in on an RBI single right after, taking the lead 2-1. Both Huss and Kautzky would cross the plate on a series of walks and errors from the Cardinals’ defense, increasing their lead to 4-1.
Treynor’s offense picked back up with two singles to start the top of the fourth from Sage Mundorf and Ella Minahan, the former scoring on an RBI knock from Ella Thornton to get Treynor back within striking distance. However, Underwood would strike out her second batter of the game and force a can-of-corn to her own glove against Adelyn Minahan to retire the side. The Chargers got even hotter in the bottom of the fourth, starting the inning off the two quick runs from Underwood and Huss courtesy of RBI singles from Caydence Boals and Trinity Calhoun, both of which would also cross the plate. Pitcher Zoey Carlson would then hit Tessa Slaybaugh, walk Kiera Boals and Underwood. then hit Huss to load up the bases for the Chargers. With the opportunity to force the 10-run mercy rule, Kailee Kautzky hit a hard liner down the 3rd base line to bring Underwood and Huss, ending the game at 12-2. ACGC Head Coach Tyler Merical says it was a great performance for the team in all aspects of the game:
