(Council Bluffs) Council Bluffs police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a train Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 4:01 p.m. on July 4, 2026, officers with the Council Bluffs Police Department and firefighters with the Council Bluffs Fire Department responded to the railroad tracks near South 11th Street and Avenue B following reports of a person who had been hit by a train.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Council Bluffs Fire Department medics.
The incident halted train traffic for several hours, blocking numerous roadways between Fifth Avenue and Avenue G. Train traffic resumed at approximately 8:30 p.m.
The investigation remains ongoing by the Council Bluffs Police Department and Union Pacific Railroad. Authorities are withholding the victim’s identity until positive identification has been made and next of kin have been notified.
