(Atlantic) The second annual Freedom Festival will take place on Friday, July 4, at Sunnyside Park, offering an evening of family-friendly activities and entertainment. Event Chairperson Ali Pieken said many of the popular attractions from last year’s inaugural festival will return, along with several new additions.
Activities include a Burger Battle, wing-eating contest, spray foam, a pickleball tournament, pony rides, water fights, face painting, access to the splash pad and pool, a bounce obstacle course, and a coloring contest for children with prizes. The Iowa National Guard will also bring its 30-foot rock climbing wall. Live music will be provided by Dirt Road Divide. Pieken said Bruce Henderson is organizing the pickleball tournament.
The Freedom Festival runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at Sunnyside Park. Following the festival, the public is invited to the Little League Complex for a fireworks display. Pieken said this year’s show will be larger than last year’s as part of the community’s celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Parking for the festival, including access to the pool, will once again be available at the fairgrounds, as it was last year.
