(Harlan, IA) — In the last Hawkeye Ten conference meeting between two arch rivals, Lewis Central made it a one sided affair with a 12-0 win at Harlan on Thursday night.
Brody Burroughs dominated on the mound for the Titans and LC pounded out 10 hits and the Cyclones committed three errors.
Lewis Central scored twice in the opening inning off Harlan starter Gavin Sisson — Burroughs got a RBI single and Blake Fort scored on an error.
In the bottom of the first, Foxx Argotsinger got a leadoff walk and Colton Schneider hit a shot to the left field wall, Argotsinger rounded third but LC’s Drew Heller relayed to SS Brooks Bond who made a perfect throw home and Brody Appelgate tagged out Argotsinger. That was the only time in the game that a Harlan baserunner touched either 2nd base or 3rd.
Sisson got through the 2nd and 3rd innings unscathed but the wheels fell off the wagon in the top of the 4th as Bond led off with a solo HR to right center. That sparked a 5 run inning — Burroughs had a RBI single, Caden Nepple had a RBI single, Ethan Helm had a RBI single and another run scored on a wild pitch. LC led 7-0.
The Titans added one more run in the 5th and scored 4 more in the top of the 7th.
Burroughs, meanwhile, was dominant — retiring 12 in a row from the 2nd through one out in the 6th when Argotsinger broke the streak with a single to right. Burroughs retired the final 5 hitters for his shutout with just one walk and 5 Ks to get the win.
