(Atlantic) Atlantic pitcher Peyton McLaren played an integral part in the Trojans 6-0 record last week, both in the circle and in the batter’s box for Atlantic. For her performance last week, McLaren is awarded this week’s KS95 Armor Insurance Trojan Athlete of the Week.
Slowed by an injury early in the season, McLaren came back last week at 100 percent, posting an impressive performance in the doubleheader victory over Lewis Central on June 8—the junior pitched seven complete innings with ten strikeouts, three hits, and an RBI double.
McLaren followed that up with another complete game in the circle in an 8-1 win over Creston on June 9, with seven strikeouts.
Peyton is hitting .419 on the season, according to the latest update on gobound. She has an ERA in the circle of 2.73 with 36 strikeouts and only eight walks.
When it comes to her hitting success, McLaren says the key has been being patient at the plate.
McLaren says it was good to get back into the groove again and gives a lot of the credit to senior catcher Lila Wiederstein.
The Trojans enter the week ranked #11 in Class 3A, with a 15-2 record, coming off wins over Bondurant-Farrar and Ankeny at the John Stephens Softball Tournament in Creston over the weekend.
The Trojans face Kuemper Catholic in a doubleheader this evening at Atlantic.
