(Atlantic) Atlantic Community Schools’ Finance Director and Board Secretary Lisa Jones submitted her resignation to the Atlantic Community School Board after accepting the Chief Financial Officer position with the North Scott Community School District. Jones says the move to the eastern side of the state will give her a chance to be closer to her family.
“This decision was not an easy one,” stated Jones. “Over the past three years, I have truly valued the relationship and partnerships. The support shown to the school district, our students, staff, and community has meant a great deal to me.”
“Over the past several weeks, a number of people have asked what led me to accept a position with the North Scott Community School District,” said Jones. “My oldest son, Luke (26), is a Journeyman Electrician with Klein Electric in Cedar Rapids. He and his fiancée are getting married in just two weeks and are currently building a home in Tiffin, which will be complete by mid-June. My youngest son, Logan (23), graduates this weekend from the University of Northern Iowa with degrees and certifications in Physical Education, Health, and Strength & Conditioning. He and his fiancée recently moved to the Bettendorf area as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
“Right now, both of my boys are along the I-80 corridor — just on opposite sides of the state from me. As much as I have loved my time in Atlantic, the distance has made it difficult to be present for the everyday moments that matter most. Between work and the constant trips up and down I-80, I realized this opportunity would allow me to be much closer to family while still continuing to do the work I truly love: Iowa school finance.
“Outside of work, we are a very active family. We enjoy golfing, staying busy, and spending time together, and this move gives me the opportunity to be more involved in my sons’ futures as they begin building their own families and careers. I am making this move primarily to be closer to my sons as they begin building their futures on the eastern side of Iowa. While I am excited for this next chapter, leaving Atlantic is bittersweet because of the incredible people I have had the opportunity to work alongside.
“The position with North Scott Community School District in Eldridge places me within minutes of Logan and only about 50 miles from Luke and his future home. It also allows me to remain connected to the profession and work that has been such a meaningful part of my career.”
Jones will take over her new position with the North Scott Community School District beginning July 1, 2026. Her resignation from the Atlantic Community School District will be presented to the Board of Directors for approval at the May 13 board meeting. Lisa Jones last day on site at Atlantic will be June 18, with her contract officially ending June 30.”
