(Atlantic) Atlantic sprinter Stella Van Aernam produced solid performances this past week for the Atlantic girls’ track team. The junior finished consistently in the top two in the 100 and 200 Meters and made major contributions to the 4×100 and 4×200 Meter Relays. For her performances at three meets this past week, Van Aernam is awarded the KS95.7 Armour Insurance Trojan Athlete of the Week.
Atlantic Head Coach Matt Mullenix says Stella has come a long way since her freshman season two years ago, specifically, in her commitment to the sport of track.
At the Sioux City Relays, Van Aernam turned in a pair of top finishes. She placed second in the Class B 100 meters with a time of 12.84 and followed that up with a fourth-place finish in the elite race, crossing the line in 12.91.
Van Aernam finished second in the 200 meters at Creston last Monday with a personal best time of 26.87. Van Aernam anchored the winning 4×100 Meter Relay with Jayci Reed, Allison Middents, and Lila Wiederstein in (50.54). And led off the second place 4×200 Meter Relay in 1:51.67, along with Braeleigh Hass, Taylee Hagen, and Lila Wiederstein.
Van Aernam stayed consistent all week, and responded at Thursday’s meet at Glenwood with a first-place finish in the 100 Meters in (12.81), and anchored the winning 4×200 Meter Relay.
Van Aernam will be running this Saturday morning at the Drake Relays in the 4×100-meter relay with Jayci Reed, Lila Wiederstein, and Allison Middents. Lila Weiderstein has qualified for the Long Jump at the Drake Relays on Thursday.
