(Sgt. Bluff, IA) — Sergeant Bluff hosted the Warrior Relays on Saturday with 10 teams mostly in the Siouxland area. Lewis Central girls made the trip and finished 2nd behind Bishop Heelan 98 to 94. Sioux City East won the boys with 117 points with the hometown Warriors in 2nd place with 99. Underwood boys were 4th with 65 points.
Winners for the Titans included Arianna Melicka in the 400 (1:04.45) and 400 Hurdles (1:13.09); Madelyn Hoss in the 800 (2:23.50) and 3000 (10:44.22); Delayna Reese in the 1500 (5:00.07) and the 4×100 relay (51.62) which ranks 38th in the state.
Underwood boys traveled up Interstate 29 to compete and Tayden Hull won the 400 Hurdles and posted the third fastest time in the state. Hull ran a time of 54.50 seconds which beat his previous best of 55.96. The only two people who have run the event faster is Keenan Kilburg of Bellevue at 54.21 and J.J. McDermott of Bettendorf at 54.42. Nobody has achieved the Drake Relays blue standard of 54.15 — the top 16 times in the state qualify.
Hull was also part of the Shuttle Hurdle relay that won along with River Allen, Hudson Ross Quentin Hultquist with a time of 1:02.06 which ranks 27th in the state. The top 16 make it to the Drake Relays.
Underwood also won the 4×400 relay with Jackson Hughes, Jack Limpp, Ross and Hultquist with a time of 3:35.46
Also for the Eagles, David Kilibarda-Foote was third in the discus (133-10); Charlie Myers was 4th in the 100 (11.34); and Maddox Mechaelsen was 5th in the 400 Hurdles at 1:01.07.
Denison Schleswig also competed at Sgt. Bluff and Sara Mun won the High Jump at 5-02; the Monarchs Distance Medley relay finished first with Kyia Clark, Mun, Kysa Neddermeyer and Hailey Cue at 4:39.76. Hailey Cue was 2nd in the 800 (2:37.33) and Clark was 3rd in the 100 (12.98). For the boys, Grant Olsen was 2nd in the High Jump (5-08).
