(Area) — The deadline to qualify for high school athletes for the 2026 Drake Relays is Thursday, April 16 — all entries must be in by 6:00 am on Friday, April 17.
On the girls side, Atlantic has achieved the Blue Oval Standard in the 4×100 relay and has qualified for the Drake Relays. So far 52 individual girls and 31 relays have met the blue standards to get into the event; for the boys it is 41 individuals and 25 relays. The Blue Standards were created in 2018 to create tangible goals for Iowa’s top athletes, and to assist coaches and families in planning their season. Blake Boldon, the executive director of the Drake Relays, says there is a lot that goes into selecting the standards
Boldon explains that the blue standard is not the only way to qualify for the Drake Relays and only a small selection of the field will attain it
One big difference from the state tournament is that the Drake Relays does not have entries based on class — all the schools are lumped into one and Boldon says that will not change, ever
