(Griswold, IA) — Griswold has seen declining numbers in golf over the years but Head Coach Chad Rodgers is optimistic about this season. For one, the girls have enough numbers to field a team — eventually. The Tigers have five overall players which is enough to have a scoring team but three of them are pretty new to the game. Rodgers says that Senior Miley Kelley, Sophomore Zoey Baker and Freshman Addalynn Phelps will be brought along until they are ready. In the meantime, Senior Kate Tischer and Junior Abigail Henderson will be on the course to start the season
For the boys, Senior Brayden Lockwood is locked in at number one and Rodgers says his leadership is invaluable
Rodgers says he has a shot to get to state this year and Rodgers says they also have experience at the #2 and #3 spots
Rodgers says that Nollan Smith just got cleared by the doctors to play the other day coming off an injury in basketball. Junior Colten Taylor will be the #4 golfer who Rodgers says is a tall kid with a nice, slow swing and keeps the ball in play. Griswold also has three other guys who are dual sporting in track and will contribute when they can — Juniors Walker Gary and Callen Keiser and Sophomore Dain Laverty.
Griswold will open their season on Monday hosting a conference meet with Bedford, East Mills, Essex, Fremont Mills, Hamburg and Sidney.
