(Earlham) The Atlantic girls’ track team put together a solid performance at the Earlham High School Early Bird Relays on Tuesday night, securing four first-place finishes.
The Trojans earned gold in the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, with A. Jones, Bruce, E. Jones, and Reed finishing in 1:10.13 to take the win. They also claimed victory in the 4×200 Meter Relay, with Van Aernam, Hass, Middents, and Wiederstein completing the race in 1:50.66. In individual events, Jayci Reed earned gold in the 100 Meter Hurdles, clocking a time of 16.51, while Adler Bruce finished third in 17.72. The 4×100 Meter Relay team of Van Aernam, Hass, Middents, and Wiederstein also impressed, recording a time of 51.42. This same quartet previously ran a time of 50.27 at the Audubon Early Bird meet on Monday, earning them a spot in the prestigious Drake Relays.
The Trojans also made notable appearances in other events. In the 800 Sprint Medley, the team of Hass, Ritter, Andersen, and Meyer finished seventh in 2:07.96. The Distance Medley relay team, consisting of Hagen, Meyer, Harlan, and Engler, earned a seventh-place finish with a time of 4:51.79. The 4×400 Meter Relay team of Williams, Reed, Hickman, and Mendez-Cordero capped off the meet with a fourth-place finish in 4:34.99.
In individual events, Stella Van Aernam and Lila Wiederstein finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 100 meters. Van Aernam posted a time of 13.11, while Wiederstein crossed the line at 13.27. Bella Brock also earned a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters, running 13:13.75. Ximena Mendez-Cordero came in fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 1:06.91, while Katrina Williams finished seventh in 1:08.25. Emerie Jones ran fifth in the 400 Meter Hurdles in 1:22.07, and Kaitlyn Hickman placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:42.72.
In the field events, Emerie Jones was the runner-up in the Long Jump, with a leap of 15-07.50, and Taylee Hagen finished eighth at 14-01.00. Olivia Olson took fourth in the Discus with a throw of 91-07, while Katrina Williams placed fifth in the High Jump, clearing 4-06.00. Faith Larsen finished eighth in the Shot Put, with a throw of 29-09.50.
