(CAM) The CAM Community School District will hold a public hearing Monday, March 30, on its proposed property tax levy for the upcoming fiscal year.
The hearing is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the high school media center.
During the hearing, residents and taxpayers will have the opportunity to present oral or written comments, either in support of or opposition to the proposal. Following the hearing, the school board will publish notice and hold an additional hearing on the district’s proposed budget.
The proposed property tax dollar levy totals $5,770,337 for FY2027, compared to $4,598,591 in the current fiscal year. The proposed overall tax rate is 11.82807, up from the current rate of 9.43897.
Under the proposal, a residential property with an actual value of $100,000 (assessed at $110,000) would see property taxes increase 29.24%. A commercial property valued at $300,000 would see taxes increase 39.05%. The estimates assume a 10% increase in property values compared to the current year.
School officials cited declining enrollment as the primary reason for the increase in the overall tax rate. In addition, the management levy is rising due to higher insurance costs.
