(Guthrie Center, IA) — AC/GC will have a different head coach but a familiar face patrol the football sidelines this fall — William Shull has been promoted from Defensive Coordinator for his first ever football varsity head coaching position. Shull is from Clarinda where he played all four years under Roger Williams who became a mentor. He did not play football in college at Iowa St. where he was on the equipment staff and learned a lot before coming to Guthrie Center
The most common question that Shull has been asked is: Will the offense stay the same? AC/GC runs a triple option running attack where throwing the football is not a priority. Shull believes there will be a tweak here and there but if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
AC/GC has had tremendous success under Cody Matthewson who has taken a job in the Van Meter school district — the Chargers won 10 games the last three seasons but they lose a large senior class this spring. In order to continue that winning tradition, Shull realizes there is a lot of work to do
Shull is also the Girls Golf Head Coach at AC/GC and the Junior High and Adair Casey Elementary PE teacher — he will move to the High School in the fall and teach PE plus will be the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
