(Elk Horn, IA) — Exira EHK Girls Track and Field has seen an influx of numbers and will be going solo this year. Head Coach Kevin Brown says there are 14 girls out for track this spring with six of them freshmen. The Spartans will be led by Junior Taryn Petersen who Brown says has a good chance of ending a long drought of Exira EHK sending someone to the state track meet
Brown believes that the team’s greatest strength is in the sprints
Olvia Poldberg, Aubrey Nelson, Brooklyn Brabham, Andi Risegaard, and Joshlynn Jacobsen are all freshmen who Brown says enjoys running together. Brown says that he is going to focus on the sprint medley relay at least to start the season. Brown says the biggest goal is to have a Spartan on the blue oval this year
On Saturday, Exira EHK was at an indoor meet hosted by NW Missouri St. — Petersen was 6th in the 60 meter dash and 6th in the 200 to highlight the team’s performance. Exira EHK will open their outdoor season in the early bird meet at Audubon next Monday, March 30.
