(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved a budget finance director position.
Current Chief Financial Officer Mitch Kay’s last day is Tuesday, March 24th. Supervisor Keith Jones said they had two options, either replace Mitch or move somebody in to the Auditor’s Office.
Jones noted that Mitch did much more than just the budget.
Supervisor Brian Shea said he would be in favor of a Budget Finance Director.
Supervisor Susan Miller said she does not believe they need a CFO. She said they need someone who can interpret what has been provided by the legislature so they can adapt their policies and amend their procedures to remain in compliance with audit requirements.
Supervisor Tim Wichman said it is important to have “two sets of eyes,” noting they are a $110 million organization.
Following discussion, the supervisors approved the creation of a budget finance director position for the Board of Supervisors.
