(Treynor, IA) — For the second year in a row, Treynor’s Alec Lovely is a First Team All State basketball player selected by the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association. This year Lovely led the Cardinals to 23-4 record and an appearance in the state semifinals where they lost to Kuemper Catholic. Lovely was selected to the Class 2A All Tournament team — for the season he averaged 17.8 points per game along with 4.5 assists and was 67 of 176 from three point land for an excellent 38 percent. Lovely credits his teammates for helping him get first team all-state
Treynor has an impressive group of seniors with Lovely, Judi Mieska, Corbin Thein, Ethan Hill, and Dane Guttau and Lovely treasures every moment spent with them on the court
Treynor has had an impressive track record of success in boys basketball — 13 of their last 20 years have been 20 win seasons and of those 7 none 20 win years, 4 of them have been 19 wins. Lovely says the reason is teaching basketball starts early
Treynor loses four starters and six seniors overall including Lovely there will be some rebuilding for the Cardinals next season. Lovely, meanwhile, has committed to playing basketball at Simpson College in Indianola, IA
Lovely says he got talked into competing in track and field this spring for the first time. At Simpson, he plans on majoring in business.
