(Ames, IA) — The Iowa St. women’s basketball team will face off with Syracuse in the first round of the NCAA Tournament this Saturday at 4:30 pm, coverage on KSOM.
The Cyclones are the 8 seed at 22-9 while the Orange are the 9 seed at 23-8. ISU Head Coach Bill Fennelly admits his knowledge of the Cuse is limited
6’3″ Freshman Uche Izoje from Nigeria is averaging nearly a double double — 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Laaila Phelia is a senior guard who averages 13.7 ppg and shoots 37 percent from three point land. Senior guard Dominque Darius averages 12.6 ppg and junior guard Sophie Burrows comes in at 11.2 ppg. There is plenty of scoring for the Orange that finished 4th in the ACC.
The winner will more than likely play one of the national championship favorites in UConn in the next round but Fennelly does not want to think about that
Iowa St. took its lumps in the middle of the season with a 5 game losing streak and they have lost 4 of 7 games at the end of the season but all of that can be forgotten with success in the tournament says Fennelly
