(Elk Horn, IA) — This week, Exira EHK’s Taryn Petersen was named First Team All State in basketball from both the Iowa Girls Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association. Petersen was one of 35 players in the state to average 20 or more points in a game. The junior was 2nd in the entire state in steals per game at 6.3. Petersen was 2nd team all state in Class 2A last year. She says there was a reason why she moved up to the first team this year
One of Exira EHK’s strength this season was their ability to mix up their defenses — that kept them in the game versus St. Albert in the state tournament and Petersen says their defense led to a lot of great moments
Its a family affair with the Spartans — Taryn plays for her Dad Tom Petersen and plays with her cousin Jaelynn Petersen plus there are the Miller cousins — Riley and Harlow. Taryn says it makes for a great team chemistry
Exira EHK loses three seniors Kadence Sporrer, Harlow Miller and Jaelynn Petersen and but Taryn is excited about next season with the players that are coming back
Petersen believes that Exira EHK can go back to the state tournament next season with the players coming back.
