(Atlantic) In her report to the School Board Wednesday night, Atlantic Schools Superintendent Dr. Beth Johnsen spoke about a new Iowa Western Community College program that will be offered this fall.
Dr. Johnsen said Iowa Western Community College received bond funding to improve the Atlantic campus, and the focus will be on making Atlantic an agriculture hub. She said the new offering will be a precision agriculture program.
Dr. Johnsen said they are also looking into finding some pieces of ground where students can practice these farm skills.
Dr. Johnsen also noted that on March 24, the district will interview construction firms for the building projects. The board will then get together to discuss which firm they want to offer a contract to. The next day, the board has a meeting scheduled which will give them an opportunity to approve a tentative agreement to make an offer to one of the construction companies.
In other news, the School Board approved the following items: FY27 Cooperative Purchasing Nutrition Agreement; FY27 Technology Bids; FY27 Green Hills MOU; the Budget Guarantee Resolution; and out of state travel requests.
