McGowan Files Papers to Run for U.S. House of Representatives in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District.
(Des Moines) Chris McGowan, a Republican candidate for the United States House of Representatives in Iowa’s 4th Congressional District, officially filed his ballot petition signatures with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office this morning. McGowan’s submission of the official paperwork solidifies his candidacy for Congress. It is the final step required of the “McGowan for Iowa” campaign to qualify for the ballot in the June 2, 2026, primary.
McGowan, an economic development professional, military veteran, and licensed attorney, reported that his campaign submitted over 3,600 signatures, far surpassing the 1,726 required by state law. The “McGowan for Iowa” team added that the submission included signatures from all 36 counties in the 4th Congressional District. McGowan, a native of Sioux City, Iowa, represents the fourth generation of his family in the 4th Congressional District.
McGowan says the issue he hears most on the campaign trail is the economy.
McGowan says agriculture is critically important, specifically value-added agriculture.
Securing the border is another priority for McGowan. He says the Americans want to know that their government is keeping them safe.
A first-time candidate for public office, McGowan stated, “The nearly 400 pages we submitted today contain the signatures of farmers, small business owners, teachers, healthcare workers, veterans, and Iowans from nearly every imaginable walk of life. We are genuinely grateful to the thousands of citizens who chose to participate in this important aspect of our democratic process.”
McGowan also expressed his appreciation for those who actively assisted in securing his signatures, explaining, “I am deeply indebted to the team of family, friends, volunteers, GOP leaders, and many others who helped collect these signatures over the last couple of months.”
Chris McGowan has been endorsed by President Donald Trump and numerous national leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives, including House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana), Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana), Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minnesota), and House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
