(Oakland, IA) — It was another 20 win season for the Riverside girls basketball team but they fell short of their goal of making it to the state tournament. This season the Bulldogs lived off a ferocious defense that allowed an average under 30 points a game. Riverside will lose two seniors and they were both starters — Adaline Martens and Karlie Miller who got hurt mid season — Head Coach Mark Jeppesen says they were great team players
Riverside will return a large group of juniors led by Sydney Somers who led the team in scoring at 13.6 points per game. Jeppsen thinks she can even better next year
Others coming back include Juniors Kayden Schnack (7.2 ppg), Sophia Fenner (6.7 ppg, 7.0 rbg), Azlyn Clark (4.3 ppg), Lilli Reed and Kaycie Perkins. Plus Sophomore Iviana Schechinger saw more playing time as the season progressed and Sophomore Peyton Schafer would get into the mix. Jeppesen says the priority next season is to develop the offense
Riverside had been under .500 for 14 straight seasons until an 11-11 mark in 2023-24 and have gone 20-4 two seasons in a row.
