(Indianapolis, IN) — Nebraska started strong but the 12 seed did not finish what they started as 13th seeded Indiana came from behind to beat the Huskers 72-69 in the first round of the Big Ten Women’s Tournament.
The Cornhuskers stormed out to a 29-15 lead after the first quarter and led 45-28 at the half. Britt Prince and Logan Nissley both hit three pointers early in the 3rd quarter and Nebraska led 51-33 but the Hoosiers went on a 21-4 run to cut the lead to 57-54 early in the 4th quarter. Nebraska led 67-60 with 2:44 left but Lenee Beaumont hit a three for Indiana and after a Husker turnover, Maya Makalusky got a lay up to cut the lead to two. The Huskers missed a three and Beaumont hit another triple to give the Hoosiers a 68-67 lead with 1:06 to go. Prince and Nissley both missed threes to tie the game at the end of regulation.
Indiana (18-13) was led by Shay Ciezki with 22 points, Beaumont had 14, Neveah Caffey 13, and Edessa Noyan added 12.
Nebraska (18-12) was led by Amiah Hargrove with 23 points and Prince had 20 while Nissley added 12. The Huskers were considered a bubble team to make the NCAA Tournament but lost 7 of their last 9 games which will not help their cause.
